Riza looked through the scope of her sniper, scanning the ground around the tallest old abandoned building she could find that didn't look like it would collapse on top of her at the merest breeze. She double checked her surroundings for any foreign bodies and paused when she saw a familiar figure through the lens. She halted as a feeling of deja vu rushed over her. She couldn't believe her eyes. Could she have really found him again, after all this time?

Looking over the destroyed remains of yet another city remained the Flame Alchemist of what Ishval had been like during that whole civil war mess. Only this time none of his friends or comrades were here. Perhaps they got off easy not having to sed this kind of destruction for a second time. If he had his way Iblis would pay for killing his friends and loved ones. Even if it killed him Roy Mustang wouldn't stop fighting. His thoughts were stopped as he felt like he was being watched. After all he hadn't gotten to his former military position by luck. Guard up in an instant perparred to use his alchemy the second it was needed. Staying silent Mustang waited and listened for any sign or signal of attack.

Riza took a deep breath, the first time she'd seen him like this, she'd honestly debated killing him for what he'd done with the alchemy that she had entrusted him with, now she was just happy he was alive. She slung her sniper rifle onto her back and slowly made her way down the tower steps. Her pace quickened unintentionally the closer she got to the bottom. She opened the door and made her way over to him, looking up at him and taking him in. He didn't look well. She knew what this landscape must be doing to him and she couldn't provide any comfort to him, for she suffered the same. After all, she was equally to blame for the bloodshed in Ishval. Not only had she taken almost as many lives as he, had she never given him the information tattooed into her back, he would never have become the Hero of Ishval. "It's been a while, Colonel," she said with a wry smile.

A huge amount of relief flooded through him the moment he saw who it was that he had sensed watching him. So he wasn't the only one that had survived the destruction. Of course he allowed a small smile to show on his face as well. "Yes it has been. It's good to see you Lieutenant."

"It's good to see you too, sir," she agreed as she saluted him out of habit. She had well and truly missed him. With all they'd been through together, it had been strange not having him by her side.

Old habbits died hard he supposed seeing the familiar morion not that he minded it of course. Honestly it was nice that some things still remained the same in such turbulent times. The fact that he wasn't used to not having her beside him had made him more synical and grumpy lately, but his mood already was beginning to change for the better. "Looks like we've found ourselves in quite a mess this time around." He stated glancing in both directions.

Riza nodded, "I know I promised to follow you into hell, but I'll admit, I didn't quite imagine it like this," she commented with a small smile as she surveyed their surroundings, double checking to make sure there weren't any enemies near-by.

"Well at least we still managed to meet each other again anyway." Roy added doing the same thing, not that he doubted her abilities to detect any danger, but more out of a force of habit. "Seems like you found an to secure hideout." He stated noting the tower that she had been in beforehand.

Riza nodded, "It's the best vantage point in the city, sturdy enough not to topple on top of me too," she added with a hint of a smile. She looked back up at her tower, "We should probably get out of the open..."

"Agreed. After all with how many enemies are around lately it would be wisest to get out of sight."

Riza nodded and waved for him to follow her, "I've been pretty lucky so far, though I've definitely had my fair share of men trying to take advantage of a lone woman," she added ruefully.

"Well I'm sure they learned a very valuable lesson for their trouble didn't they." Roy responded with a knowing smirk on his face. He doubted that any man would be able to take advantage of his Lieutenant and he pitied the fool that would dare try something as stupid. Though he would gladly help the lesson get across himself, surprising how many men would run away with just a slight click of his fingers.

Riza grinned as she led him back towards her tower, "You know me too well," she answered. Not a single one of them had been able to lay a finger on her, and for some of the more persistent, it was the last mistake they made. She wouldn't ever kill just for the sake of killing, but she hadn't had a choice. It had been either her or them, and she wasn't about to let them kill her.

He had to chuckle slightly at that. "Of course I do, it's part of my job after all. So how long you been staying in this place?"

Riza sobered quickly, "Only for about a week... I was about to move when I hadn't found anybody," she admitted.

"Well then either by luck or fate that we ran into each other again. Even the end of the world can't keep us apart for long." Roy added perhaps being a little dramatic in the way he had said it. "I actually did find a group of fighters around here. Not the best strategists, but a decent bunch all the same."

Riza smiled wryly at his dramatics, "So it seems." She leaned against the wall of her tower as she looked him over, "Are you really so ready to fight in yet another war?" she asked in genuine curiosity.

Honestly his motives for joining the group had been for revenge thinking that Iblis had killed Riza along with everybody else, but how to explain that. Knowing that she certainly wouldn't approve of such a motivation, and the way he obsessed after Hughs' death he would certainly bring only worry to her mind. Knowing that she knew him well enough to catch any lie or way he could spin it, seemed like honesty was the only proper way to go. "Well at the time I honestly thought you were dead. I will admit I did it mostly for selfish reasons." Roy explained knowing that she would probably understand the things he hadn't said.

Riza's gaze softened temporarily as she understood what he meant. She knew well the awful effects losing Hughs had had on him, and losing her along with the rest of the team... she was amazed it hadn't sent him over the edge. However, she also knew the awful consequences that came with such a train of thought, and she couldn't afford to go easy on him, even if she did sympathize with him. She hadn't devoted all those years of her life protecting him just to lose him to vengeance. "So you'd become a 'hero' once more?" she asked coldly.

Roy had expected the reaction, and honestly he was glad that Riza could balantly point out the flaw in his train of thought. He needed her voice of reasoning, and only wished he had thought about her wishes beforehand. "Never wanted to be a hero, don't want to be it ever again. I'll admit it was a stupid choice on my part. I will make no excuses for my lack of good judgement." His tone serious and even. Roy wasn't going to argue his case, no he had known even beforehand that it would lead to more fighting. It was the one thing that had kept him going, having a goal even though it was far from any kind of nobility.

Riza sighed and nodded, knowing full well that he was sincere. She turned and headed up the stairs to her hideout, "We didn't come this far just so you could..." she trailed off as she realized that all of their progress didn't matter any longer. She paused as her hand brushed against the pistol at her side. The thought crossed her mind about what she'd have to do if he lost himself to his anger and she halted on the stairs, "...I don't want to have to kill you," she added softly.

"I promise you won't have to. I already almost lost myself once, and don't plan to do it again. After all I found my voice of reason again." Roy responded hinting that Riza was his voice of reason, without her it had been way to easy to slip into a revenge fuelled state of mind. He couldn't do it again, especially not now.

Riza smiled softly and looked back at him, "Looks like I really will have to follow you through hell, then. Especially since you keep making such horrible decisions whenever I'm not there to stop you," she teased, her tone lightening slightly, though she was partially serious.

"Yes I do suppose that is true with my terrible tract record. It is true what they say, behind every man is a better woman." Roy joked back though he was slightly serious about it as well.

Riza shook her head and led her way up to her place, "We both know I'm not any better... just more logical," she answered with a slight smile. She looked around the cold room. All she had was a few old blankets laid out on the floor for a makeshift bed and the stand for her sniper rifle set up next to the only window. She had a duffle bag with an extra change of clothes, necessities, her other guns and her ammo, but that was about it. "It's not much, but it's relatively safe compared to other places in town."

Looking at the place he nodded his head. It seemed like a fine shelter in his opinion. "Compared to what most places look like this could be the equivalent to a five star hotel anymore." He joked.

Riza smiled and set her rifle down carefully as she pulled out a canteen of water and took a sip, "If you say so," she responded wryly. She would honestly give almost anything to sleep in a real bed, but those were hard to find these days. Besides, she was used to sleeping on hard surfaces from her time in the military, so this didn't bother her too much.

Riza nodded her agreement with a small smile. She hadn't smiled this much since... since before the apocalypse. She turned and pulled out her gun to clean it, "True, there's not any paperwork here for you to complain about," she commented lightly.

"I didn't complain that much now did I?" He asked already liking the fact his mood had finally improved instead of the stoic depressed state before now. Then again the end of the world would put a damper on anybody's mood. Laying down on the ground and slouching against one of the walls. "More time for naps now." He joked.
